Purpose isn’t just a word it’s a calling. Few people embody that truth like Retired Colonel Josefa Benjamin, the powerhouse behind the Born On Purpose Project and its signature event, “Brunch on Purpose” happening Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Josefa Benjamin began her career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 1993, ultimately retiring after 30 years of service as the Executive Director of Detention and Community Programs, making history as the first African-American woman to hold the position.
After a trailblazing career, she shifted her focus to the Born On Purpose Project, the nonprofit she founded in 2014 with a mission to guide others on the journey to discover their God-given purpose. Josefa remains a steadfast advocate for community service and nonprofit impact, all while striving to be a living example of purpose, faith, and legacy for her three sons and grandson.
