On the outside pageant life appears to be glamorous and downright magical. Whats not to love about it? You get to dress up and have the opportunity to display yourself to the world. Its an opportunity to show off your talents, your intellectual abilities, and well— your assets. We can’t deny that physical beauty plays a major role in being dubbed a crowd favorite. Well a change is on the horizon as they just announced the iconic swimsuit portion will no longer be part of the pageant!

For those of you that are outraged by this, does your inability to see a contestant in her cheeky bikini make her any less of a “Miss America”? I didn’t think so! Personally I enjoy the swimsuit portion just as much as everyone else, but removing it doesn’t change the integrity of the pageant for me. In fact it enhances the integrity for me because it levels the playing field. Whether you think the pageant objectifies women or you consider it a platform for greatness, we can agree that this isn’t a surprise. Look around, women empowerment is a real thing and you can’t ignore it!

Gretchen Carlson, the chairwoman of Miss America’s board of directors, announced on ABC’s Good Morning America “We are no longer a pageant; we are a competition,” . “We will no longer judge our candidates on their outward physical appearance. That’s huge.”

This will open up the competition to a whole new pool of women and I’m definitely here for it. We are women, hear us ROAR!

I want to hear your opinion. Meet me in the comments 🙂
