Hurricane Harvey has been a devastating, record breaking experience for all of us, but it hits closer to home for those who lives or have lived in the area. As a Houston native, Beyoncé has decided to give back to her roots in this desperate time of need. The singer released a statement to the Houston Chronicle, saying, “My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help. I am working closely with my team at BeyGood as well as my pastor [Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston] to implement a plan to help as many as we can.” Of course this isn’t the first time the mogul has stepped in to help her city, she has donated millions to local organizations in Houston in the past, but also most recently set up scholarship funds for students studying creative arts, music, literature or African-American studies at Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design and Spelman College.

Any type of help will be effective at this point in the crisis, and it is commendable to see Queen B, along with other celebrities, stepping in and using her platform as a means to help her community.
