As much as we anticipate and love the holidays, it is also one of the most stressful times of year. All the joy that is meant to be felt is also mixed with anxiety. As well as seasonal depression (yes seasonal depression is real).

The stress can range from the financial impact of the holidays to holiday guest or just preparing and setting goals for the new year.

Here are a few tips to help cope with some of the stress from the holidays :

  • Take care of yourself we often get so caught up in buying gifts, cooking and decorating that we forget to breathe. Make sure that you take a few minutes to meditate, pray, do yoga, or something that will keep you emotionally healthy.
  • Start early Yes, as a procrastinator this is my advise. Early shopping can alleviate the stress of waiting till the last minute.
  • Be honest with your financial state Don’t try to spend champagne money on a beer budget. Let your kids, family, coworkers know your budget and don’t extend it. Come up with creative cost effective gifts.
  • Most importantly remember the reason for the season  Take the time to appreciate your family, friends, health and the opportunity to make and meet new goals.

Remember there is life after the holiday so don’t cause unnecessary stress on yourself. You want to be able to go into the New Year revived and ready to take on 2019. Its hard to do that if you’re stressed, depressed, and broke. You’re no benefit to yourself of your loved ones.
