“Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It’s about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul.”

October 7 is recognized as National Inner Beauty Day and what a day to honor. It’s been tirelessly said that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” I’m sure that we are all familiar with this saying. It is a blanketed statement that ultimately means everyone is beautiful to someone, that no one is considered unattractive. As nice and accepting as this statement is, unfortunately this statement is false. The truth of the matter is a person can be physically beautiful but everything from their attitude, to their perspective, to their mannerisms can make that same beautiful person very unattractive. Here are 3 ways to make sure that our inner beauty shines through just as much as our outer beauty because after all, outer beauty fades.

1. Be Confident
There are so many reasons that could damage a person’s confidence like upbringing, bad relationships, weight concerns, etc. The good news is that whatever the case may be, confidence can be built and repaired. A very good tactic that I’ve learned to help boost confidence is writing affirmations on my bathroom mirror in lipstick (no, not the good lipstick). I initially started this when I was trying to rebuild myself from a bad relationship that left every piece of me scattered across the floor. I would look in the mirror and see all my imperfections and blamed myself for why it just didn’t work. Being insecure causes you to hurt others whether it’s actions or words, hurt people hurt people. Do yourself and the others around you a favor and begin healing from within. Writing affirmations and repeating them daily plays a significant role in confidence building, even if you do not agree with what you are writing in your present state.

2. Check Your Attitude
Nothing kills a good vibe and a good time more than a horrible attitude! Beauty and charisma can take you places but your character will keep you there. Always be mindful of your attitude and how you affect others around you. This may be harder for some than others but being mindful is step #1 in the right direction. Instead of going from “0-100 real quick” practice being in control of your own emotions. Everyday you have the right to choose how you will react to situations you can’t control, how you choose to deal with unlikable co-workers, what perspective you have on life in general, etc. CHOOSE WISELY.

3. Be Grateful
Gratitude promotes optimism and helps develop a more positive outlook on everyday life. Aside of all the health benefits that are proven to partner with a state of gratitude like improved physical and mental health, counting your blessings everyday keeps you in remembrance to take nothing for granted. Taking time out everyday even if it is for a short period of time, will improve your inner glow. The best way I can personally put it is Psalms 107:1 that states “Start each day with a grateful heart.” Although sometimes this is hard to do given that life gets in the way at times, purposefully completing this task everyday makes even the worst of days bearable. Starting your mornings with purpose and gratitude sets the tone for your days to be pleasant, even on Mondays!

A BEAUTIFUL woman is one with a BEAUTIFUL heart, here’s to radiating beauty from the inside out!
